Bonjour...I'm Tara

When you’re in the car with someone for 12 hours, you end up talking about all kinds of things.

And when it’s Tara Marino sitting next to you, every once in a while, she fires a zinger right at you.

This past weekend we were driving back from watching Dom’s soccer game. We started talking about our life. Our dreams. Our desires.

This is pretty standard for a road trip conversation between us.

And it’s also standard for Tara to get right to the heart. She doesn’t mince words.

She asks the question that make you think.

And I’m swiping her question for you today so that you think a little and peel back another layer of the onion.

“What does it look like for you to go all in?”

Going “all in” is a poker term. It means risking all of your chips on a hand.

When you go all in, you’re betting on yourself to win.

I love this question because there is space for each unique soul to shine in our own way.

You… going all in looks much different than me going all in.

BUT there is a common thread to look for.

I’ll share that in a minute.

First, here’s an example of going “all in” that I’ve been exposed to lately.

I’ve been listening to David Goggins book “Never finished”. If you’re not familiar with Goggins he’s a lunatic in the best sense.

He pushes his body to extreme physical limits regularly. He’s run multiple 100 & 240-mile races.

I don’t believe I’ve run 100 miles in my life, and this guy does it in under 2 days.

And he does it with knees his doctor says shouldn’t be run on.

This guy and his style are not for everyone.

It’s likely he’d be too much of a drill sergeant in your ears. He curses, and he can be harsh in his delivery.

For me, I appreciate his style and the crazy depths he goes to in order to live his best life. I find it motivating.

I’m pretty sure Tara wouldn’t resonate.

So why did I bring him up when his version of going all in is nowhere near what your version of going all in is?

That’s exactly why. I don’t know what it looks like for you to go all in.

But I know that regardless of your goals, dreams, or desires, going “all in” takes devotion.

That’s what Tara and I spoke a lot about on our car ride back home this weekend.

Are you devoted to moving towards your goals?

Even when it’s hard. Or cold out. Or he said no. Or you’re tired. Or they didn’t offer you the job. Or whatever!

In her infinite wisdom Tara keyed in on the thing that connects people who are going all in. It’s the devotion.

If you have that, then you likely feel like you’re living your purpose.

In complete transparency I’m not fully devoted in some areas of my life.

But the awareness and recognition that it’s a key gives me something to use as a benchmark.

You can ask yourself…

Is this behavior aligned with being devoted to xyz dream?

Which one of these actions most aligns with being devoted to xyz desire?

You can use questions like these to help calibrate you in the direction that most serves you.

We’re here once again. You made it to the “almost bottom” of the email.

I appreciate you.

Be good.
