Today I want to share a fun way I look at life.
It’s a little game I play with myself and my family that keeps things both fun and has me showing up in a way I’m proud of.
The premise is straightforward. I want to encourage good behavior in myself and others.
So I award points to people when they do something nice or good.
And I share this with them.
I’ll call out when someone’s getting “Tara points,” “Nico points,” or “Dom Points.”
Here’s an example.
Tara finishes her work day and comes upstairs to be with the family. If I see Nico go up and hug his mom for no reason, I’ll say, “Nico’s getting some momma points!”
Another example.
I love to take care of Tara and support her in ways that she finds meaningful.
I go for “Tara points” every day. I don’t mention this one anymore because I do this daily. But deep down, I know I’m getting “Tara points” by doing this.
Most mornings, I’m up before Tara.
And I head upstairs and do my morning routine. (Our home is a reverse floor plan, so our kitchen is upstairs, and our bedrooms are downstairs)
Part of my routine is getting Tara a tray for her morning beverages and snack.
The gold tray contains a napkin, one glass of water, a small bowl of blueberries, and a Lipton tea.
I would never do this for myself because, honestly, I don’t value this act.
I don’t want/need a gold tray to make my morning tea taste better.
In Tara’s mind, this stupid tray makes everything better.
Blueberries taste better when served on a tray. An espresso tastes better with a saucer.
Just in case you didn’t know this, it’s been scientifically proven by Tara.

I find the whole thing ridiculous. BUT she loves it. So I do it.
And I get “Tara points” daily by adding a tray or a saucer under her drink.
She’s so appreciative of this. It makes us BOTH feel really good.
I silently do this with people in the grocery store or out in town as well.
I always try to make a good impression on the people checking me out.
I give them compliments or share how they are doing a good job, or start some small talk to see how their day is going.
My goal is to leave a positive impression on the people I come in contact with.
And if these people out in the real world knew about my silly points game, they would be awarding me some points for how I showed up in their lives.
So now is the moment you’ve been waiting for.
Dave… You’ve made it this far, and you’re receiving massive points from me. I appreciate you.
Be good.
